grants from University funds. Alternatively, arrangements might be made for the best of the scholarship students to be sent to England and granted scholarships there from Hongkong University funds.
(iii) Students Social Service Centre, Pingshek. An appeal has been received from this organisation which provides recreational facilities for students of Chungshan University for funds towards the enlargement of the centre, the cost of which is estimated at CN$65,000.00. The centre is run by the Reverend Roland Koh, under the aspices of Bishop R.O. Hall and the Anglican Church of Hongkong and South China, and does useful work particularly for overseas Chinese students. It is used extensively by Hongkong University students of whom there are over eighty at Chungshan University, a number greater than at any other Chinese university. The centre is supplied with British literature by the Press Attach' office in Kweilin and assistance would have both a cultural and a propaganda value. An extract from the Reverend Roland Koh's appeal is attached.
(iv) Medical Students at Lingnan University. Some fifteeen Hongkong University fourth year medical students attached to Lingnan University are studying at the Methodist Mission Hospital, Kukong. Lingnan University has been unable to provide them with dormitory accommodation or lecture rooms but
I am has appealed to us for CNS100,000 for this purpose. diffident about recommending this appeal, as the arrangement is a temporary one and will presumably cease when this batch of students have qualified. Hongkong University medical students of other years attached to Lingnan University have been transferred to the National Chungching. University in Kiangsi, where they will presumably complete their studies.
